A new all-round skinner named quickSkin has been added to the Skin Utilities section. Here is a quick review to give you a first impression of its features:
QuickSkin is the first freeware skinner to skin more than just Winamp's main window. It skins nearly all components, even the shaded EQ, leaving only the minibrowser and the playlist editor buttons untouched. Separate background pictures may be loaded to the main window, equalizer window and playlist editor, or one picture can be loaded to all three windows. Another possibility is to load one picture to the main + equalizer windows and another picture to the playlist editor. All pictures have to be in the bitmap format (*.bmp) and if they are not in the standard Winamp size, they will be stretched or shrunk to fit. You can further customize your skin by changing the colors of the windows, buttons, sliders and text. Even the visualization colors can be edited.
Too bad that quickSkin does not skin the playlist editor buttons or the minibrowser. A skin is just not complete without these components. But hey, I don't know of any other tool that skins the minibrowser yet. The buttons and sliders created by quickSkin only come in one style, so that all skins will look pretty much alike. The best part of quickSkin is that it is completely free and very easy to use. Anyone can quickly make a Winamp skin of their girlfriend or cat in just a few minutes without having to read any instructions.
